About Greenfield 

Greenfield, Indiana is a city rich in history and full of attractions. In 1828, the county of Hancock was created in April, and a month later, Greenfield was founded as the county seat. At that time, the small town had a population of only 400 people.

Originally, the primary business in the town was gristmills where they would grind different types of wheat for settlements. Then, around 1887, the city saw the largest growth due to natural gas being discovered in the area. Greenfield began founding manufacturing plants and other industries due to the discovery, and it became a boomtown for the next 20 years.

The city of Greenfield continues to see growth year after year. It is a city full of history with museums and buildings that were built soon after it was founded. Main Street in Greenfield is home to around 70 buildings that were built between 1835 to early 1900 including emporiums, boutiques, and other small businesses.

Greenfield schools have a student to teacher ratio of 16:1 with 4,396 students in grades PK-12. Regarding the state test scores, 59% of the students are at least proficient in math and 56% are at least proficient in reading.
